Stops or won't come down?
Garage door won't close all the way
A door that stops, reverses or won't start down usually traces back to the safety sensors, the two small photo eyes near the floor. Check their lights first, then call if it still won't close.
What it costs
- Opener repairsensors, limits and force from$175
- Off-track repairback on track, rollers checked from$215

- Find the two small sensors a few inches off the floor, one on each track. A light that's off or blinking means they're blocked or out of line.
- Wipe both lenses and move anything in the beam, like a bin, a broom or a bike.
- Still stuck? Hold the wall button down until the door reaches the floor, then call.
Why the door refuses to close
Openers made since 1993 have to reverse when something breaks the light beam across the doorway. A bumped sensor, dirt on a lens or low sun shining into it reads the same to the opener as a child or a pet in the way.
