Grinding, squeaking or banging?

Noisy garage door

What to do right now

  1. Listen for where it comes from: the rollers in the tracks, the hinges between sections, or the opener on the ceiling.
  2. Heard one loud bang instead? Stop using the door and look at the spring above it.
  3. Book a tune-up online, or call and describe the sound.

Where the noise comes from

Steel rollers wear out of round and grind in the track, hinges wear at the pin, and a loose opener chain slaps the rail. Lube and adjustment quiet a lot of it. Worn rollers get replaced.
